How to get more Google reviews

Seven simple steps that take a happy customer all the way to a written review, without breaking Google's rules.

Short answer: to get more Google reviews, ask customers at the right moment, when they're happy, and make it effortless: the review form should open with one tap or one link. Reply to every review, and never offer a reward in exchange for a review, because that breaks Google's policies.

Why Google reviews matter

Google's own help center says that high-quality, positive reviews can improve a business's visibility in local search. For customers, reviews are often the first thing they read about you: how recent they are, the overall rating, and whether the owner replies.

The problem is that most happy customers never write one. They would have to find the business on Google, find the right button and go through several steps, so many put it off until later and forget.

7 ways to get more reviews

  1. Ask at the right moment. The best time is when the customer is satisfied: when the bill arrives, when an order is handed over, or at checkout.
  2. Make it one tap. An NFC stand on the table or counter opens the review form as soon as a phone touches it. No searching, no typing. See Google review stands.
  3. Share the direct link. Put your review link on receipts, in WhatsApp messages and in your Instagram bio. How to find your review link.
  4. Reply to every review. A thank-you for positive reviews and a calm, specific answer to negative ones show that customer opinions matter.
  5. Prepare your team. Staff should know one short line, for example: "If you enjoyed it, tap your phone on the stand and leave us a review."
  6. Follow up later. A short thank-you message with the link after the service works well, especially for hotels and salons.
  7. Polish your profile. Customers are more likely to review a profile that looks complete and alive: photos, hours, replies. Take the free profile test.

What's not allowed

Google's policies prohibit offering money, discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews, as well as fake reviews. If you break them, Google can remove reviews or restrict your profile. Ask all customers equally, not only the ones likely to leave a positive review.
